Who We Are

Emily is a freelance copywriter with three main loves in life: Sports, traveling, and writing about sports and traveling. Growing up in Tasmania, Australia, Emily played every sport possible until it became clear she was too small and uncoordinated to ever truly succeed. Luckily, she finds watching sports more entertaining than actually playing.

Emily is currently based in Los Angeles and spends her weekends at Angel City and LAFC games. Her 2023 highlights reel includes Messi’s surreal and chaotic trip to LA with Inter Miami and destroying her sleep schedule for six weeks to watch the Matildas smash records at their home World Cup down under.

When not screaming at a referee or writing, you can find her plotting a new overseas adventure, brewing an IPA, desperately trying to keep her garden alive, or justifying the purchase of yet another new vintage football jersey.

Melanie Smith is a freelance writer from the UK. She writes regularly about regional and major sporting events and is a lifelong (and long-suffering) supporter of her local football team, Bristol Rovers (affectionately known as The Gas). She also enjoys watching tennis, athletics, and F1.

As a lifelong Maccabi Tel Aviv enthusiast, I’ve journeyed from a dedicated sofa fan, watching games on TV, to a passionate traveler, exploring Europe’s football scene. For years, my love of the game was confined to the living room, where I mastered cheering from my couch. Inspired to experience more, in the last few years, I decided to break free and take my fandom on the road. This shift led me to embark on unforgettable trips, including an eight-day football marathon, visiting stadiums, and experiencing local football cultures across Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, and Georgia.
Ironically, my path began with a degree in Economics, a field in which I’ve never officially worked a day. Instead, embracing my passion, I followed my true calling and pursued a career as a sports journalist. While my professional life has seen me dive into a variety of topics as a writer, my heart always finds its way back to the sports section. I wish to not only share my passion for football but also to offer insights and stories to fellow fans and readers.

For the last 24 years or so I’ve been watching, reading, attending and generally consuming any and all sports content one might possibly consume. Along the way I also started occasionally writing about it, sometimes traveling for it and commonly handing out helpful yet obnoxious tips regarding it. My daily dose usually includes (actual) football, (American) football, basketball, MMA, pro wrestling, and whatever’s on TV. I don’t get and don’t want to get baseball. In terms of actually participating in a sport of any kind – I don’t.
Also, I’m a last-year medical student, but that’s very much the least interesting thing I have to write about.
Happily married to a wonderful woman who somehow still patiently pretends to be listening when I talk about how awesome Nikola Jokic is for the 1879th time. In her (and my) defense, Nikola Jokic is indeed super awesome.
