FC Barcelona, or Barça if you’re on first-name terms, has skyrocketed in popularity, becoming one of the most popular, recognizable, and represented teams around the world. It’s not really surprising – the club has a storied history, a massive trophy cabinet, and signs the best players in the world.
Barça play their home games at the iconic Camp Nou venue, located west of the city center. For any sports lover, planning a trip to Camp Nou for an FC Barcelona match is an incredible experience. If you’re a football fan who wants to see Barça in action, this is the guide for you. I’ll show you how to get to Camp Nou in Barcelona, whether you’re staying in a hotel up the street or traveling from further afield.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that while Camp Nou is undergoing major renovations, Barça is temporarily playing at a different stadium – the Olímpic Lluís Companies. Don’t worry, I’ll show you how to get to that one as well!
Different Options for Getting to Camp Nou
There are several different ways to get to Camp Nou, depending on where you’re traveling from. You can:
- Drive
- Bike
- Walk
- Take a taxi
- Take the metro
- Take a bus
We’ll break down each of these options below, helping you find the right one for you and your crew traveling to Camp Nou for a Barça game.
How to Drive to Camp Nou and Where to Park Near Camp Nou
One option is to drive to Camp Nou. If you’re traveling for sports to Barcelona from further afield, or you’re on a Spanish road trip, a car is a good option. But, if you’re already in Barcelona, a car isn’t the easiest way to get to the stadium as the roads can get very busy on game days and the parking is limited.
If you have somewhere you can leave your car, like a hotel with secure parking, I’d recommend doing that instead and then walking or taking public transport to get to the stadium. If you do decide to drive, you can park at Camp Nou by entering through gate 14 of the stadium (Carrer Arístides Maillol, 12 – 08028 Barcelona).
The good news is that parking is free during Camp Nou’s opening hours, and on game days, parking in this parking lot opens up to four hours before kickoff. That said, parking is limited, and the streets around the stadium also don’t have a lot of parking you can use for game days. So, driving to Camp Nou is possible, but it can be more complicated than other options.
Buses to Camp Nou for FC Barcelona Games
Buses are an easy way to get to Camp Nou from just about anywhere in Barcelona. You can take the 52 or 54 bus line from the city center (for example, Plaça de Catalunya) and get off at Arizala – Les Corts, a bus stop right outside the Camp Nou entrance.
Buses can get busy on game days, so leave yourself plenty of time. This journey from the city center takes around 45 minutes, and buses leave around every 10 minutes. A single-use bus ticket in Barcelona costs €2.40 and is valid for a one-way trip without transfers. You can buy tickets from the bus driver or online, and can validate a ticket using a contactless bank card reader on the bus.
Using the Hop-On Hop-Off Tourist Bus to Get to Camp Nou in Barcelona
If you’re traveling for football and plan on spending a few days in Barcelona, there might be other tourist attractions and sights you want to see while you’re in the city. If this is the case, and you don’t feel 100% comfortable navigating the metro and buses, the Hop-On Hop-Off tourist bus might work for you.
The Barcelona Hop-On Hop-Off bus drops you on the doorstep of all the city’s top attractions, including Camp Nou. It’s an easy, stress-free way to navigate your way around Barcelona, especially if you’re visiting multiple tourist spots. A ticket is €40 for two days, so it’s more expensive than a normal bus, but it may also be more convenient depending on your plans.
Taking the Metro to Camp Nou to See FC Barcelona
Another option is to take the metro to Camp Nou – this is probably the easiest way to get to the stadium, even though it gets very busy on game days. From the city center, you can take the Green Line (L3) from Plaça de Catalunya and get off at Barcelona Sants. Then, you can transfer to the Blue Line (L5) and get off at Collblanc.
This will take you around 40 minutes, and a single ticket costs €2.55. If you’re going to be planning a trip to Camp Nou and want to see other highlights as well as Barça, you can also use the Hola BCN card, which gives you unlimited public transport on the metro and the city’s buses – it’s a more affordable option if you’re hopping around a lot.
Biking or Walking to Camp Nou
Biking and walking are also great options for getting to Camp Nou. If you’re traveling to an FC Barcelona match and want to explore the city while you’re at it, I always think doing it on foot, or with a bike, is perfect because it gives you the freedom to stop wherever you want and live like a local.
Biking to Camp Nou
In terms of biking to Camp Nou, it will take you around 30-45 minutes to get from the city center out to the stadium. Barcelona is very bike-friendly, and this route is safe, well-marked, and easy to navigate.
From the city center, bike from Plaça Catalunya to Rambla de Catalunya. Then, bike uphill until you reach the busy street, Avinguda Diagonal. There are designated locations with bike racks around 50-100 meters from Camp Nou, along the Avinguda Diagonal.
Walking to Camp Nou for Barça Matches
Another option for getting to Camp Nou to see FC Barcelona is to go by foot. It will take you about an hour from the city center (or less if you’re located in the west of the city) to walk to the stadium, but it’s a great way to see more of Barcelona where you’re at it. There are a few different routes you can take – just use Google Maps to plan ahead.
Can you Take a Taxi or Ride Share to Camp Nou?
Ride-share services aren’t really reliable in Barcelona, due to the government’s ongoing conflict with Uber and other such companies. Taxis are abundant though, and it’s easy to find a ride any time – just look for a taxi with a green light. A taxi ride from the city center to Camp Nou usually takes less than 20 minutes and costs around €16.00.
But Wait, Where Is Barcelona Playing Right Now?
As I mentioned at the start of the article, Barça has temporarily vacated Camp Nou while it’s undergoing massive renovations. Once finished, the upgraded Camp Nou will seat a staggering 105,000 people!
FC Barcelona’s Home While Camp Nou Is Renovated
While the work is ongoing, FC Barcelona has a temporary home: the Olímpic Lluís Companies. It’s located in the Anella Olimpica, southwest of the city, and has a capacity of around 55,000.
How to Get to the Olímpic Lluís Companys
Getting to the Olímpic Lluís Companys is pretty easy, and on game days, extra transportation links are added to relieve congestion. You can take the 13, 55, or 150 bus directly to the stadium, or use the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, which drops you right in front of the Olímpic Lluís Companys. You can also take metro lines 1 or 3 to the Playa Espanya, then walk 20 minutes to the stadium.
If you’re thinking of driving to the Olímpic Lluís Companys, it’s similar to Camp Nou – it’s an option, but it’s not the best one. There are some parking lots around the stadium, but they quickly fill up and spaces are very limited, as is street parking. Really, public transport, walking, or biking to the Olímpic Lluís Companys are your best options.
When Is Barça Moving Back to Camp Nou?
As with all construction projects, the Camp Nou renovations are subject to delays. That said, word on the street is that Barça should be moving back to Camp Nou by December 2024. So, if you’re planning a sports travel trip to see Barça play in 2025, there’s a good chance you’ll see them at the Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Construction will be ongoing once Barça does return to Camp Nou, and when the stadium first opens it won’t be at full capacity – it might be well into 2025 before 100,000+ fans are coming through the gates. This means that getting tickets to see Barça will be harder than ever, so make sure you’re planning your football trip well in advance!
