Not Sure Where to Stay in Munich for Euro 2024? Start Here!

Euro 2024 is creeping up quickly, with the June 14th kick-off date almost upon us. If you’re traveling to Munich for Euro 2024 and haven’t booked your accommodation yet, it’s time to secure your room before it’s too late!

There are three main options when it comes to Euro 2024 accommodation in Munich. You can stay:

  1. In the city center where most of the restaurants and attractions are
  2. Near the Euro 2024 Munich stadium, which is somewhat isolated from the city
  3. Near the Munich Euro 2024 fan zone, which is somewhat closer to the city

In this guide, I’ll break down the different options depending on your preference. Let’s go!

Accommodation near Munich Euro 2024 venues: 3 Picks

All Euro 2024 matches in Munich are being played at Allianz Arena (referred to as Munich Football Arena for the Euro 2024 tournament), home of Bayern Munich. The stadium is about 13km (8 miles) north of Munich’s city center and takes around 30 minutes on public transit.

There are limited accommodation options close to the stadium, but still some to choose from. While it may seem convenient to stay near the stadium, you may find yourself somewhat isolated from the rest of the action, as restaurants, bars, and Munich’s top attractions are all closer to the city. That said, here are some accommodation options close to Allianz Arena.

  1. Hotel Arena Stadt München

The Hotel Arena Stadt München is a 20-minute walk from the stadium, making it one of the closest accommodations near the Munich Euro 2024 venue. It features small but clean rooms, a delicious breakfast daily for €8, and plenty of parking.

It’s a short walk to the train (U-Bahn) to get into the city, which takes around 15-20 minutes. If you want to stay near the stadium, this is probably the best option, but it will likely fill up quickly!

Address: Schlößlanger 10, 80939 München, Germany

  1. AMERON München Motorworld

Another North Munich option, AMERON München Motorworld is a 20-minute train ride from both the city center and Allianz Arena. This puts you in the middle of all the action, but you won’t find a lot of activities, restaurants, or shopping in the immediate area around the hotel.

The AMERON München Motorworld is located inside the Munich Motorweald complex – a must-visit for any motorheads! It’s a reasonably priced option for Euro 2024 in Munich and still comes with a number of great amenities like a sauna, restaurant, and gym.

Address: Am Ausbesserungswerk 8, 80939 München, Germany

  1. Olympia Schiessanlage Hochbrück

A 20-minute walk from Olympia Schiessanlage Hochbrück will have you right at the Allianz Arena turnstiles. It’s a reasonably priced hotel with a restaurant, breakfast buffet, and even a bowling alley!

Olympia Schiessanlage Hochbrück is a bit further out of the city – it will take you around 40 minutes by public transit to reach the busier parts of town. But, it’s a convenient option for the stadium if that’s your top priority.

Euro 2024 Accommodation Options for Munich Fan Zones

While there will likely be a lot of Euro 2024-related events around Munich, there’s one place in particular where you can catch all the festivities: the official UEFA Munich Fan Zone. The Fan Zone is being set up at Olympic Park (Olympiapark München), the host site for much of the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Olympic Park is located in the north-west of Munich, around 25 minutes from the city center. It’s a huge complex, with more restaurants, bars, and sights in the area compared to Allianz Arena’s surroundings. If you want to be nice and close to the Fan Zone, here’s where to stay.

  1. Motel One München-Olympia Gate

Motel One München-Olympia Gate isn’t lying when it says “Olympia Gate,” This hotel is right outside the entrance to Olympic Park. If finding accommodation close to the Munich Euro 2024 Fan Zone is your goal, this is the hotel for you!

Motel One München-Olympia Gate is around 20 minutes from the city center by train, and around an hour by train (or a 15-minute drive) from Allianz Arena. The hotel features a breakfast, a nearby grocery store, and a 5-minute walk to the U-Bahn.

Address: Petra-Kelly-Straße 4, 80797 München, Germany

  1. Holiday Inn Express Munich – Olympiapark

Located on the northern side of Olympic Park, this Holiday Inn Express is a 15-minute drive from Allianz Arena (though it will take you over an hour by train), or a 20-minute train ride from the city center. There are a few restaurants and bars in the area, but not a whole lot.

The hotel offers breakfast, and you’ll find a U-Bahn stop around 5 minutes away to help you get around the city. Despite being located on quite a busy road, the hotel rooms are quiet. The hotel is right outside the northern entrance of Olympic Park and you’ll certainly be able to walk to the Fan Zone.

Address: Triebstraße 50, 80993 München, Germany

  1. THE FLAG München M.

THE FLAG München M. is just a 10-minute walk from Olympic Park, a 50-minute train ride from Allianz Arena, and a 30-minute train ride from the city center. Although it’s conveniently located for public transport, there aren’t a lot of restaurants or bars around, as is the case with most accommodation near Olympic Park.

The hotel features a gym, breakfast at THE FLAG Cafe, and a garden and roof terrace where you can relax. There’s underground parking and on-site laundry for an additional fee. Although designed for longer stays, the price is also reasonable for short-term visitors to Munich.

Address: Gneisenaustraße 24, 80992 München, Germany

Accommodation Options in Munich: Other Choices

While staying near the stadium may offer more convenience for game days, and staying near the Fan Zone puts you close to the Euro 2024 action, neither is particularly convenient for exploring the best of Munich.

If you’re interested in seeing the city, walking to restaurants each night, taking in the sights, and still visiting the Fan Zone and Allianz Arena by public transit, staying in the city center may be the best option. Here are my top picks for anyone looking to be more involved in all the city’s action.

  1. BEYOND by Geisel

If you have a relatively high accommodation budget and you’re looking for a luxury hotel, there’s no better option in Munich than BEYOND by Geisel. This high-end, boutique hotel is located in Marienplatz, right in the city center. You’ll be in the heart of the action, with most city sights within a walkable distance.

The hotel features comfortable rooms that often come with spectacular views of the city. There’s also a restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast or dinner, and communal areas where you can relax and enjoy a drink. You won’t find a more central location to explore the best of Munich from.

Address: Marienplatz 22, 80331 München, Germany

  1. Haus im Tal

For a more budget-friendly option, Haus im Tal offers great value in Munich’s city center. This top-rated hotel is situated in Old Town, within a short walk of many of the city’s sights, restaurants, and nightlife. It’s a 30-minute train ride to either Allianz Arena or Olympic Park.

Haus im Tal features a breakfast buffet, bottomless brunch on Sundays, a modern bar that gets quite lively in the evenings, and a roof terrace with views over the city. You can also request free passes to a nearby fitness center to use throughout your stay.

Address: Tal 24, 80331 München, Germany

  1. Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München is a centrally located luxury hotel that’s perfect for exploring Munich. Located in Old Town, it’ll take you around 40 minutes to get to Allianz Arena by train, or around 30 minutes to get to the Fan Zone at Olympic Park by train.

This hotel features a delicious breakfast, a restaurant and a bar that’s open for dinner, a cigar lounge, and a pretty impressive afternoon tea served daily in the lobby. If you need a few hours to rest and recharge, there’s also a luxury spa room with a sauna, heated indoor pool, and a gym.

Accommodation Tips for Euro 2024 Munich Travelers

Finding the right accommodation to suit your needs is one thing, but you also need to be savvy when it comes to booking your rooms and locking in a good deal. These tips should help!

Budget Accommodation Tips for Munich

If you’re on a tight budget for Euro 2024, the Munich accommodation options above might not be right for you. Instead, you may want to look for hostels in Munich, which usually offer better value (if fewer amenities) than hotels.

Another budget travel tip is to book your accommodation as early as possible. Prices will increase as Euro 2024 edges closer, and demand will go up, causing some of the more affordable accommodation options to be quickly snapped up. In other words, book soon to avoid disappointment or high prices!

You can also look for deals on bundling your accommodation and flights. Websites like Expedia, Priceline, and all offer bundle deals that can save you significant money and make the whole process of booking your flights and lodgings simpler.

Tips for Using Airbnbs and Vacation Rental Platforms

Another option for Euro 2024 accommodation in Munich is to explore vacation rental platforms like Airbnb. I’ve found that hotel rooms are generally cheaper than Airbnb apartments for inner-city lodgings, especially once you add on all the extra Airbnb fees.

In my opinion, the real value of Airbnb is when you’re traveling with a group. Rather than paying for multiple hotel rooms, you can book a larger apartment (or even a small house if you’re slightly further out of the city) and save money. You can also cook and make yourself at home in more space and comfort than most hotel rooms offer.

Tips for Booking Accommodation in Munich for Euro 2024

Here are some more tips to ensure you have a smooth booking experience for Euro 2024 accommodation in Munich:

  • Book early to avoid disappointment or over-paying
  • Explore different booking platforms – you may find that prices vary
  • Keep a spreadsheet with your bookings, the amount paid, and the amount owing (if any)
  • Double-check check-in and check-out times to prevent surprises
  • Plan your trip from the airport to your accommodation ahead of time

By keeping these tips in mind, you can save money, find the perfect accommodation for Euro 2024, and explore the best that Munich has to offer.
